UNITED KINGDOM, 23 October, 2026 – Music marketing agency Now Listen PR has launched a free Spotify Royalty Calculator to help artists gain a clearer understanding of how much their streams could earn.

Available through the Now Listen PR website, the calculator lets musicians enter their Spotify stream count and adjust factors including the estimated payment per stream, their royalty share and any distributor fees. The tool then provides an estimate of both the gross royalties generated and the amount the artist may receive after deductions.

The calculator was created in response to widespread confusion surrounding Spotify payments. Although payment figures are often presented as a simple rate per stream, actual royalties depend on several variables. These can include where listeners are based, whether they use Premium or an ad-supported account, the artist’s distribution arrangement and how recording and publishing rights are divided.

“There is no single figure that accurately tells every artist what a Spotify stream is worth,” said James Plimmer of Now Listen PR. “We wanted to create a straightforward tool that artists could adjust to reflect their own circumstances, rather than giving them an unrealistic headline figure.”

The calculator uses an estimated UK gross royalty range of approximately £0.002 to £0.004 per stream for planning purposes. At these rates, 100,000 streams could generate roughly £200 to £400 before fees and royalty splits, while one million streams could be worth between £2,000 and £4,000.

However, the amount reaching the artist may be lower if earnings are shared with a record label, distributor, publisher, songwriter or other rights holders. The calculator allows users to include some of these deductions and see how they could affect the final payment.

Helping Artists Look Beyond Stream Counts

Now Listen PR created the resource to encourage artists to look more closely at the value and source of their streams, rather than treating the total play count as the only measure of success.

Two releases with an identical number of Spotify streams may generate different royalty payments. A listener’s country, subscription type and advertising market can all affect the revenue placed into Spotify’s royalty pool.

“Stream counts are useful, but they never tell the whole story,” Plimmer explained. “Artists also need to consider who is listening, where those listeners are located and whether the campaign is creating repeat engagement. Understanding the financial side helps musicians set more realistic expectations and make better decisions about promotion.”

The calculator is supported by a detailed guide covering Spotify’s streamshare system, estimated UK payment rates and the difference between gross royalties and an artist’s eventual take-home income.

A Practical Resource for Independent Musicians

Now Listen PR works with emerging and established artists on digital music marketing campaigns, including streaming promotion, playlist strategy, digital advertising, social media and press partnerships.

The new tool is intended to support independent artists as they plan releases, assess promotional results and consider the potential return from building a larger streaming audience.

“Our work is about helping artists create meaningful, long-term growth,” added Plimmer. “That means making industry information easier to understand as well as helping musicians reach new listeners.”

The free Now Listen PR Spotify Royalty Calculator is available to use online.

All figures produced by the calculator are estimates for educational and planning purposes. Actual royalty payments vary, and the calculator is not affiliated with or endorsed by Spotify.
